I'm sitting in a basement in Santa Monica putting the final touches on our film about a post oil economy, which by the way, looks like it's going to be pretty good, pretty fresh, and very non-partisan. Anyway, I was doing some research on the two big pro-drilling propaganda sites about ANWR (anwr.com & anwr.org) - which are the same people btw - and I noticed they were using Google adwords to earn some revenue. The funny thing is that, since Google adwords are contextual and automatic, all the ads are adamantly anti-drilling. Check it out!

Ah yes, like rental cars that advertise $9.99 a day car rentals, U-Haul has some extraordinay powers of inflation. I usually expect to pay double what they advertise, but when all was tallied up the other day, I paid more than 4 times the U-Haul advertised rate of $19.95 a day, plus I put 10 bucks of gas in. I declined the accident protection too. The catch of course, was that I took the thing to IKEA in the east bay and thus went over the mileage maximum, but gimme a break!

I figure I might as well have some kind of showcase for some of the work I've been doing, and I'm too busy to whip up something formal. So - two cool new Movable Type powered sites that I've done recently that can give you some idea of the power of this fantastic piece of software:

1) The Lazy Environmentalist - this is a pretty standard "blog" layout that you probably recognize, with a few special features, such as a "highlight" category which always appears suspended in the upper right corner. Special thanks to Bob Gower for creating the green chair logo.

2) Net Impact Conference 2005 - I'm quite pleased at how well this one turned out. You would be hard-pressed to tell that this is, in fact, a Movable Type powered site, but every element of it is actually a modified blog entry of some sort. The pop-out menu navigation on the site is entirely CSS based, which is especially cool.

SF tax dollars would be well spent if they opened up a showering facility for the city's homeless. The restroom and elevators at the otherwise beautiful SF Public Library smell so bad I opted to walk 4 flights of stairs and use the one hidden restroom in the back that no one knows about. There's also a guy sitting opposite me looking scruffy and thumbing through catalogs called "Knives 2005" and "Guns Digest". He's wearing a US Postal Service cap. I'm not making this up, I'd take a covert photo, but that's probably not a good idea.
