One of the great mysteries of the Bay Area is the proliferation of eateries that specialize in both Chinese Food and Donuts. If you live in San Francisco, you've undoubtedly seen these places and thought "What in god's name is that all about?" Well, I'm sorry to say I still don't have an answer, but the best I can come up with is the economies of scope resulting from owning a large deep fryer. Still... these places freak me out.

Ahh, the global marketplace. The World Cup will be hosted by Germany in 2006, and Budweiser, America's favorite swill, has managed to become the exclusive beer of the tournament by forking over a whopping $40Million marketing deal. It just seems like sacriledge to me. What's next? The Hofbrauhaus starts serving McDonalds? Amusingly, they are still not allowed to use the name "Budweiser" in most of Europe, as that brand is owned by the older, and many times sued, Czech brewery by the same name. |
