easyEverything

easyEverything is truely amazing! For one Euro I can have 60 minutes of internet time at any of their cafes anywhere in Europe. Truly brilliant. Well that's enough for me, now back to München.

Compare and Contrast!

The following two photos are views from a) my old back porch in San Francisco, and b) my living room window in London. Can you guess which is which?

New Flat!

Well, i've finally got a new apartment in London. [click here] to see it on a map. It's really nice, what you might call Euro-chic, where everything is ultra modern and electronic. Nice roommate, and a really nice living room. The size of the bedroom brings it all back to earth though. I may have to get dressed in the hallway... in other news, t-minus 3 days till Fest Pest 2002 begins!!! A colaborative blogging project has been established here. Check it out!

Oh yes - here is an aerial view of my neighborhood, with my building circled.

One Week Till Fest Pest 2002

One week to go! A week from tommorow, I'm off to Oktoberfest, then to Budapest by bike with Karen and Charlie. The weather looks good, the flooding is over, and the roads are in order. I will have a special blog for the trip!

Soda or Pop?

These is the kind of demographic statistics that I love the most. This Article talks about different names people have for soda. See, I said SODA. I've never really thought about calling it anything else.

The results are actually mapped out, which shows significant regional differences. Curiously, all three places in the US where I've lived (Milwaukee, St. Louis, and California) are specifically mentioned as 'soda' stongholds. Interesting indeed!

Photos...

I'm waiting for the opportunity to unpack my stuff and display the cool photos I took on arrival into London. Will happen soon enough. Today was the first day in London that I felt tired in the morning. Getting back to my old lazy self. hmm..

Drowning in Mayonaisse

Strange fascination with Mayo here in London. Seems you can't get a sandwich without it swimming in mayo. Not that I'm complaining, I'm just amused at the cultural differences.

Anyways, flat hunting is going pretty well. I've decided to suck it up and pay a lot of money. There is a nice flat that looks like it might work out. Fairly astronomical rent, but hey, what can ya do. It should be really nice!

House Hunting...

House hunting! Man, this is worse than finding a roommate. It's hard to make up my mind about these places. Some will undoubtedly be offered to me, and I will have to turn them down for one reason or another, so it's hard to be too nice to all these people. I feel like I'm interviewing for a job.... but some of these jobs I may not want. OH well, off to drinks with a prospective roommate. We shall see...

A long Day...

Things began today with last ditch packing and freaking out about not having enough time to get to the airport, but then i calmed down when Julia came to pick me up. We took care of all my errands then had a nice lunch in South Park, a fitting last meal in SF.

The flight was generally mediochre, as the seating was utterly inhumane. I couldn't even move both arms at the same time, and was trapped next to two ladies who did nothing but chatter on about cosmetics and dieting for 3 hours. They had at least 10 "fashion" magazines spread out falling off thier laps.

That aside, the view leaving San Francisco was phenomenal. We ascended about the fog and all that could be seen was the tri-spired Sutro Tower sticking up into the heavens. Then we cruised out over Lake Tahoe, off to Pyramid lake, and best treat of all, the remains of burning man... I saw massive concentric circles etched into the Black Rock Desert, from them emanating a massive dust storm. It looked like a few hearty encampments were still down there getting pounded by the dust. Pretty amazing sight.

I did manage to get my camera out for the arrival into London, which featured a perfectly coreographed flyby of almost every major monument in the city. Spent a whopping $75 on a cab to the office, because the amount of baggage I had preculded any other method. (at least it's tax deductable). The smog and smoke on the street where pretty bad, as was the traffic, which did little more than crawl, but I arrived safe and sound, and actually did a fair amout of work. Right then, as they say, off to the pub, then off to bed. Cheerio!

Off we go...

Off to London tommorow. In other news, Rob K has gotten himself a blog! [link] ... and it looks pretty good. Trust this man's opinions.

Every time I travel, I forget one key thing. I've packed so much stuff for this move (surprisingly, it's cheaper to haul it all on the plane, than ship it) that i can't imaging what it will be this time. Chances are I'll figure it out in a week when I'm missing a shoe or something. Anyways, brief entry as always. Off to bed now.
