Geographically accurate Tube map

Phenomenal accomplishment this week! The classic London Tube Map, wonderful though it may be, is tragically flawed geographically. In fact, it's very hard to correlate places on it with their actual locations in London. So... I searched and searched for a tube map, that is drawn in geographic reality. After a long search I was unable to find one. So I made one myself! Here it is:

It's rather messy, but it's pretty interesting anyhow. Compare it to the classic. If you know anything about the tube map you can figure out where things are on my map, which uses the same colors as the classic.

I created it by piecing together a massive map of london from streetmap.co.uk then drew the lines out connecting the stations. I have the original photoshop file, though it is 50 MEG in size. The map here is a very shrunk-down version without the city streets beneath.

Here's another neat link about the history of the London Tube Map.

Wow, I've been looking for a map like this for ages! Three requests for the next version, in order from easiest to hardest:
1) Show the "zones"
2) Expand to cover the entire tube (to zone 6)
3) Add overground railway lines

A geographical map like this is especially great for orienting newcomers and visitors.

The page http://owen.massey.net/tubemaps.html lists other such Tube maps, including a very nice version that includes rail lines and major streets--see the last page of http://www.tfl.gov.uk/tfl/pdfdocs/marketone.pdf

Great idea BUT the spelling is appalling (it's Tottenham Court Road; Edgware Road; Russell Square; Holborn) - please take the time to check these as it's an irritating distraction.

Very impressive! I would lalso ike to see the route that the lines actually take to the stations. I am certain that there is a lot of twisting and strange detours, and it would be great to see these mapped out. Do you know of a map that does this?

Best wishes,
John.
